Dr. Vandersteenhoven has been on the Critical Decisions Editorial Board since 2024. He is a practicing emergency physician at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

After earning his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia, Dr. Vandersteenhoven completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Virginia. He then pursued an emergency medical services (EMS) fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Vandersteenhoven serves as the assistant medical director for both Albemarle County Fire Rescue and the University of Virginia's transport network, Pegasus Air & Ground.
