Petra Duran-Gehring

Assistant Course Director
Petra Duran-Gehring, MD, FACEP, FPD-AEMUS, has served as an assistant course director for ACEP’s AEMUS FPD Exam Review Course since 2021. Dr. Duran-Gehring is currently the director of emergency medicine ultrasound, the AEMUS fellowship director, and an associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville. Dr. Duran-Gehring earned her doctor of medicine degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. She completed her emergency medicine residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville.
In 2008, Dr. Duran-Gehring started the emergency ultrasound program at the University of Florida College of Medicine as the sole ultrasound faculty member. She has since expanded the program to house an accredited AEMUS fellowship and has won management awards from the ACEP Clinical Ultrasound Accreditation Program. Dr. Duran-Gehring has lectured nationally and has a passion for medical education, as evidenced by numerous national teaching awards, including course directorships and grant funding. She currently serves as immediate past president of the SAEM Academy of Emergency Ultrasound, is a member of the Society of Clinical Ultrasound Fellowships (SCUF) Board of Directors, and has been a speaking coach for the SCUF national conference. She is a member of the leadership team for the ACEP/SAEM joint national journal club Probing the Literature and is assistant course director for the ACEP Emergency Ultrasound Management Course.
