Josie Acuña

Josie Acuña, MD, FPD-AEMUS, has served as a speaker for ACEP’s AEMUS FPD Exam Review Course since 2025. She has also served as a section editor for PEERcert+ Advanced Ultrasound since 2025. Dr. Acuña is currently an associate professor of emergency medicine and the assistant dean for clinical competency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. Dr. Acuña earned her doctor of medicine degree from the University of Arizona. She completed her emergency medicine residency at Staten Island University Hospital in New York and her emergency ultrasound fellowship at the University of Arizona.

Dr. Acuña has authored multiple publications with a focus on point-of-care ultrasond (POCUS) in medical education, the use of ultrasound for safety and procedural guidance, and exploring access and belonging within the emergency ultrasound community.
