2025-2026 Elections Upcoming!

Hello International Section Members!

From now on, every two years, we will elect new officers to guide our section—and we’re excited to open nominations for this next leadership cycle. If you are committed to promoting development internationally within emergency medicine, we encourage you to get involved.

INTERNATIONAL MEMBERS ARE NOW ELIGIBLE FOR LEADERSHIP ROLES

You may nominate yourself or a fellow member (nominees must be a regular member of ACEP and of the International Section). The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, July 25th.

Leadership Transition Update

At our upcoming section meeting during ACEP25 in Salt Lake City (Sept. 7–10), we’ll officially welcome the new leaders stepping into their roles and continuing our commitment to a more connected, inclusive community:

  • Dr. Sean Kivlehan who was Chair Elect and will now be Chair.
  • The role of Chair Elect will be open for election.
  • Dr. Austin Lee will go from Alternate Councillor to Councillor.
  • The Alternate Councillor role will be open for election as well.
  • Our previous section Chair, Dr. Rolando Valenzuela, will become our Immediate Past Chair.

Open Positions

We invite nominations for the following leadership roles—opportunities to elevate voices, foster belonging, and build community. Remember, International members are eligible!

Chair (6-year term: 2 years as Chair-Elect, followed by 2 years as Chair, 2 years as past Chair)

Chair-Elect: Supports the Chair, contributes to leadership discussions, and helps drive section initiatives. This role helps shape our vision and strengthens our culture of inclusion and collaboration. This role also leads meetings when the Chair is unavailable.

  • Represents the section at ACEP26 & ACEP27 Section Annual Meetings as Chair-Elect.
  • The Chair-Elect helps oversee the Education Committee, the Communication Committee, and the Global Village Planning Committees.

Chair: Chairs meetings and contributes to leadership discussions and helps drive section initiatives. This role helps shape our vision and strengthens our culture of inclusion and collaboration

  • Represents the section at ACEP28 & ACEP29 Section Annual Meetings as Chair
  • Helps oversee the Mid-Year Meeting Planning Committee, the SA Ambassador Meeting Planning Committee, and the Fundraising Committee.

Past-Chair: Represents the section at ACEP28 & ACEP29 Section Annual Meetings as Immediate Past-Chair.

  • Chairs meetings if Chair or Chair-Elect is unavailable
  • Helps oversee the Awards and Nominations Committee, The Ambassador Committee, and the GEMS-LP Committee

Communication Chair (4-year term total: 2 years as Vice Chair, 2 years as Chair)

  • Represents the section at ACEP26 & ACEP27 Section Annual Meetings
  • Chairs the Communication Committee
  • Oversees section communications, including quarterly updates to the section’s social media accounts, website and newsletter. This position ensures that all members stay informed and feel connected to the section’s mission and each other.

Alternate Councillor (4-year term total: 2 years as Alternate Councillor, followed by 2 years as Councillor)

  • Represents the section at the 2026 & 2027 Council Meetings at ACEP26 & ACEP27 as Alternate Councillor; and then
  • Represents the section at the 2028 & 2029 Council Meetings at ACEP28 & ACEP29 as Councillor
  • Brings the section’s voice to ACEP’s Council, advancing policies that reflect the values of access, equity, and community representation. Alternates may also assume voting responsibilities as needed.

Note: All officers are expected to attend the International Section’s annual meeting, held during ACEP’s Scientific Assembly.

Whether you’re a longtime member or newly involved, we invite you to consider stepping into a leadership role. Your voice, ideas, and commitment to the International Section can make a meaningful impact.

Nominees will be announced in the International Section community on engagED. Electronic ballots will be distributed in August, and newly elected officers will be announced ahead of our annual section meeting.
