In collaboration with the Louisville Metro Police Department and Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Department, ACEP members Daniel O’Brien, M.D., FACEP and Aaron R. Kuzel, D.O., FACEP from the University of Louisville Department of Emergency Medicine were invited to the Lithuanian National Police School (Lietuvos policijos mokykla) to conduct a week long-training on tactical medicine and introduce concepts of rescue task force and incident command systems. The training was an international collaboration hosted in Lithuania and included police officers from Latvia, Estonia, and Berlin, Germany. Our ACEP members helped build bridges between the Lithuanian Police and the Department of Emergency Medicine in Kaunas, Lithuania and conducted joint trainings with the incorporation of incident command and rescue task force concepts. ACEP’s Lead Ambassador to Lithuania in the International Ambassador Program Dr. Kuzel said of the event, “we were honored and privileged to be invited to work with our colleagues in Kaunas and hope our work will offer a lasting impact for the Lithuanian National Police, the Kaunas Clinics Department of Emergency Medicine, our colleagues from the Baltic States and Germany, as well as for emergency preparedness and response to the active aggressor.”
