Joseph Lykins

Dr. Lykins is an assistant professor of emergency medicine at the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine at Boston University and an attending physician at Boston Medical Center. He graduated from the Pritzker School of Medicine at The University of Chicago in 2018, and subsequently completed his combined training in emergency medicine and internal medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond, VA in 2023, where he served as a chief resident. A committed educator of both medical students and residents, Dr. Lykins has been acknowledged for this work as a recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award in 2025. His clinical and research focus is on the intersection of emergency medicine and infectious diseases, with active work in migrant health, HIV screening in the emergency department, and optimizing antimicrobial stewardship and management of infections in the ED. He also has a passion for the incorporation of primary care interventions/preventative care into ED workflows, as well as in observation medicine.
