Collin Michels

Collin Michels, MD, is currently the chief of emergency medicine at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He is also the fellowship director for the Administration, Quality, and Leadership Fellowship and an assistant professor in the BerbeeWalsh Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Michels earned his doctor of medicine degree at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Vermillion. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Stanford University in California. He also completed a fellowship in emergency department administration at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Michels has served as the councilor for the ACEP Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Section and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Chapter of ACEP. Dr. Michels was recognized for his innovative approach to quality improvement by ACEP’s Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee and Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Section in the 2024 ACEP QI Challenge. Dr. Michels is particularly interested in opioid and substance use disorder in the emergency department and emergency department operations.
