Jennifer Carnell

Jennifer Carnell, MD, FACEP, has served as a speaker for ACEP’s AEMUS FPD Exam Review Course since 2023. She is currently the director of emergency ultrasound and education and the advanced emergency ultrasound fellowship director at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Dr. Carnell earned her doctor of medicine degree from David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and she completed both her emergency medicine residency and advanced emergency ultrasound fellowship at Alameda County Medical Center, Highland Hospital, in Oakland, CA.
Dr. Carnell is currently an associate professor of emergency medicine and the ultrasound director for the emergency department at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. She also works clinically at Ben Taub Hospital. In her time as faculty at Baylor, Dr. Carnell developed the ultrasound program for the emergency medicine residency, the emergency ultrasound fellowship, and introduced point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to the medical school curriculum. Her academic interests include the use of POCUS in low-resource settings and in the evaluation of the critically ill as well as ultrasound curriculum development.
Dr. Carnell has served as treasurer for the SAEM Academy of Emergency Ultrasound and is currently the chair of the AIUM Point of Care Community of Practice. She has delivered invited talks at ACEP, SAEM, AIUM, AAEM, SCUF, MEMC, Emergencies in Medicine, and the Vietnam Society of Emergency Medicine conferences. Dr. Carnell was a prior recipient of the ACEP Emergency Ultrasound (EUS) National Leader in Education Award.
