Dr. Howerton is a PGY2 in Emergency Medicine at Corewell Health East in Detroit, MI who is passionate about medical education, health policy, and mental health.

Entering residency, Dr. Howerton dove into improving her residency site by establishing a wellness team for the site intern class, as well as piloting the new “MedUp” resiliency program. These efforts have already seen an improvement in site wellness, according to the most recent hospital survey, and served to build a resident community.

Dr. Howerton chose emergency medicine for the fast-paced atmosphere, working with her hands, and the balance between critical care medicine and primary care. She utilizes her time off to continue to advocate for medical education policy change, health policy initiatives, and giving back. She aspires to serve her community at-large by advocating for her patients, specialty, medical education, and health care as a catalyst for change.
