Editor-in-Chief, PEERcert+ Advanced Ultrasound
Stephen Alerhand, MD, FPD-AEMUS, has served as Editor-in-Chief for ACEP’s PEERcert+ Advanced Ultrasound since 2025 and as senior content editor since 2021. He has also served as a speaker for ACEP’s AEMUS FPD Exam Review Course since 2023. Dr. Alerhand is currently the ultrasound division director and fellowship director at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where he is also associate professor of emergency medicine. Dr. Alerhand earned his doctor of medicine degree from Boston University School of Medicine, and he completed both his emergency medicine residency and emergency ultrasound fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Alerhand has received several local and national awards, including the SAEM AEUS Rising Star in Education Award, ACEP Contribution to the Section Award, and ACEP Outstanding Section Newsroom Content Award. He has published ~50 peer-reviewed manuscripts in point-of-care ultrasound. Dr. Alerhand formerly served as secretary-treasurer for the ACEP Emergency Ultrasound Section, and he previously served as co-chair for the ACEP Resident Education Subcommittee. Dr. Alerhand’s main ultrasound interest is advanced critical care echocardiography, in which he is board-certified by the National Board of Echocardiography.
