Michael Secko, MD, FACEP, FPD-AEMUS, has served as a section editor for PEERcert+ Advanced Ultrasound for the Focused Practice Designation in Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasonography (AEMUS) since 2025. Dr. Secko is currently a clinical professor of emergency medicine and vice chair of faculty and academic affairs at Stony Brook University Hospital and the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University in New York. Dr. Secko earned his doctor of medicine degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and he completed his emergency medicine residency and emergency ultrasound fellowship at SUNY Downstate/Kings County Hospital in New York City, New York.
Dr. Secko is the current secretary of the Society of Clinical Ultrasound Fellowship (SCUF) and a recent recipient of the department’s Faculty Award of Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Secko has published numerous peer-reviewed studies and reviews in the field of emergency ultrasound. Dr. Secko previously served as the Ultrasound Division Director at Stony Brook University. He is also the director of an annual point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) workshop for islands of St. Lucia and Dominica, and he has lectured to audiences across four continents. His primary ultrasound interests include musculoskeletal and echocardiographic applications.
