About Us
The Clinical Ultrasound Accreditation Program (CUAP) is an ACEP-governed, accreditation organization with the purpose of establishing a system of review to promote the goals of quality, patient safety, communication, responsibility, and clarity regarding the use of clinical, also known as point-of-care, ultrasound. As the use of ultrasound has become mainstream in clinical medicine, a need has emerged to encourage and support current standards for clinical ultrasound programs as detailed in the position statements and guidelines established by respective medical societies and associations.
CUAP has been tasked with the express purpose of providing assurance that clinical ultrasound programs operate with the most up-to-date standards in the areas of administration of ultrasound programs, education and training of health care providers, performing and interpreting ultrasound examinations, equipment management, transducer disinfection, image acquisition and retention, and confidentiality and privacy. CUAP also has the benefit of assisting clinical ultrasound programs in their growth so that new programs can take advantage of expert experience to ensure they are meeting these best practice standards.
