From the Chair

Samuel Lam, MD, MPH, FACEP

Summer is just arriving as I am writing this chair’s message.  Yet preparation has already been under way for ACEP25 in Salt Lake City.  This year’s theme for our Section meeting is “POCUS Elevated.” We know there are many highly talented members in the ACEP EUS and we want to do our best to showcase your accomplishments for all to see.

Such is the theme of articles in the current issue of the Section Newsletter. We have recently concluded our first Fellow Speaker Symposium, where 6 fellows from over the country gave amazing talks on their favorite POCUS topics under expert faculty guidance. Drs. She, Salerno, and Werner provide a nice recap of this event. Drs. Makowski and Riwniak lead us on a deep dive in advanced left ventricular POCUS applications. Drs. Agaraj, Boivin, and Hsu provide tips on where to submit POCUS simulation cases for publication. Dr. Schnittke explores with Dr. Gibbons how to parlay an insightful local POCUS protocol into impactful research.  Dr. Lovallo, Lohse, and Mirsch outline strategies to channel your passion in undergraduate POCUS education into meaningful academic careers. Drs. Conway, Gartner, and Melton discuss how to create and implement a POCUS prehospital program in the community setting. In addition, the current Newsletter also contains updates and opportunities from subcommittees, where you can collaborate with EUS members that share your special interest within POCUS.

Our Newsletter welcomes submission from ANY member. This is a great forum to promote your innovation, niche expertise, or achievement in POCUS. And please continue to let us know how else we can help elevate your POCUS passion to the next level.
