From the Chair
Samuel Lam, MD, MPH, FACEP
Over the last couple of months, the ACEP EUS has worked diligently with other leaders in the Emergency Ultrasound community to address the proposed changes in the residency POCUS requirement by the ACGME. The final letter was signed by the leaders of the ACEP EUS Section, SAEM AEUS, AAEM EUS and SCUF and is linked here for your review.
The current issue of the Newsletter features a “hot seat” interview with Dr. John Kendall, an ABEM Director who played an important role in spearheading the new Certifying Exam featuring prominent ultrasound components. Dr. Kendall’s interview is a quick read, summarizing the spirit behind the change. This would be the article I read (and reread) before giving “parting advice” on the 2026 Certifying Exam to graduating residents this year.
I also want to highlight all the inspiring, high quality, practice-enhancing contributions from the Emergency Technologies Subcommittee, Coding and Reimbursement Subcommittee, Global Ultrasound Subcommittee, Pediatrics Subcommittee (x2), Safety Subcommittee, Prehospital, Austere and Tactical Ultrasound Subcommittee, and Critical Care Subcommittee. We also have recurring columns, including a Literature Canon on aorta ultrasound from the Fellowship Education Subcommittee, as well as a link to the cardiac ultrasound chapter from our very own Sonoguide.
The mission of the ACEP Emergency Ultrasound Section is to support your ultrasound practice via knowledge dissemination, advocacy, compilation of resources, and camaraderie. Please feel free to reach out to let us know how we can better serve you.
