With strong support from the Oregon chapter of ACEP, a new Oregon state law will safeguard physician autonomy and workforce mobility by banning non-compete agreements.
The Oregon chapter of ACEP (OR-ACEP) actively engaged legislators throughout the process to help pass the ban as part of Oregon’s law keeping corporate interests out of medicine.
In its testimony, the chapter said:
“The best interests of patients are served when emergency physicians practice in a fair, equitable, and supportive practice environment. For emergency physicians who are part of a group, a non-compete clause may force them to leave their community, even though they don’t bring their patient roster to their next job.”
ACEP will continue to support policies that prioritize physician autonomy. This success in Oregon and ACEP’s national efforts to defend emergency physicians from unfair labor practices are part of a string of wins for emergency physicians across the country.
ACEP is laser-focused on protecting your rights on the job and making sure every individual emergency physician can pursue the career that best meets their needs and interests.
