Dr. Joshua da Silva, DO, FACEP, previously Air Force, practices with Emergency Services Inc. in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. da Silva graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016, completed residency in Dayton, Ohio and is nearing 5 years post-graduation. He first got involved in ACEP during residency through the Government Services Chapter (GSACEP), right before COVID sent the country into lockdown. The COVID pandemic exposed terrible cracks in our healthcare system, delivering the wake-up call Dr. da Silva needed to become a change-maker in his field.
Once Dr. da Silva found the ACEP Council, something clicked. He progressed from alternate to full councillor through GSACEP, serving on various committees, before transitioning to Ohio ACEP where he sits as a full councillor and newly-elected board member.
Dr. da Silva sits on the ACEP Bylaws and Council Steering Committees and has learned more than he ever thought that he would. He's been able to take what he's learned to help his local medical associations and to become involved in state-level healthcare policy and advocacy. Dr. da Silva feels that he owes ACEP his medical practice, because without the opportunities he had to meet like-minded friends and to “fill his cup,” he likely would have left medicine after COVID.
