A tenacious advocate for physicians and patients and passionate leader, Marilyn J. Heine, MD, is an emergency physician in southeast Pennsylvania and clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia.
Dr. Heine has served as president of the Pennsylvania College of Emergency Physicians (PACEP), chair of the ACEP Federal Government Affairs Committee, ACEP representative to the Core Quality Measures Collaborative, and long-time member of ACEP Council and committees.
Elected to the AMA Board of Trustees, Dr. Heine has served as chair of the AMA Council on Legislation, board member of the AMA Political Action Committee, and delegate to the AMA House.
Dr. Heine represents the AMA on the CAQH CORE board and the Da Vinci Project Clinical Advisory Council, where she works to enhance interoperability and streamline the business of medical practice.
Dr. Heine’s additional prominent leadership positions include president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED), chair of PAMED’s Telehealth Task Force, chair of the PAMED Political Action Committee; president of the Bucks County Medical Society where she continues on the Executive Committee; past chair of the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine, and member of the Federation of State Medical Boards Nominating Committee.
A national speaker on health policy, physician advocacy, scope of practice, AI, and medical emergencies, Dr. Heine serves as faculty for ACEP Scientific Assembly. She has testified before Congress on “Medicare Physician Payment: How to Build a Payment System that Provides Quality, Efficient Care for Medicare Beneficiaries,” serves as chair of a Congressional physician advisory board, and is widely recognized as a trusted resource by policymakers on “both sides of the aisle.” A media spokesperson and associate member of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia, Dr. Heine also received gubernatorial appointments to the Pennsylvania eHealth Collaborative and the Health Care Reform Implementation Committee.
A champion for our future leaders, Dr. Heine has presented, “What I Wish I Knew When I Was in Medical School” and served as a mentor for the AMA Foundation Leadership Development Institute.
Acclaimed for her accomplishments in health policy and advocacy, Dr. Heine has received many accolades, including the PACEP David Blunk Award for Outstanding Contribution to Emergency Medicine and the ACEP Colin C. Rorrie, Jr., PhD Award for Excellence in Health Policy.
