Dr. Taylor Nichols is board-certified in both emergency medicine and addiction medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and has been actively involved on a state and national level within ACEP. He was an advocacy fellow with California ACEP and subsequently served two terms on the ACEP Board of Directors. Living in Sacramento, California, his proximity to the state capitol has enabled him to be more directly involved in advocacy work in his career.
Working fewer shifts in the emergency department, Dr. Nichols is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Transitions Addiction Medicine Group and medical director at Transitions Clinic of Sacramento. Additionally, he serves as an Implementation Leader with CA Bridge, Volunteer Assistant Clinical Professor at UC Davis Medical Center, and the Director of Strategic Initiatives with Sacramento Street Medicine.
He completed his undergraduate degree in Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Michigan before pursuing medical school at UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Nichols subsequently completed residency training in Emergency Medicine at UCSF-San Francisco General Hospital and fellowship training in Health Policy and Advocacy at UC Davis Medical Center. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Health Policy and Law at a combined program between UCSF and UC Law SF.
Dr. Nichols is passionate about health systems reform, social and political determinants of health, health equity and vulnerable populations, substance use disorders and recovery, physician wellness, and health care innovations.
