ACEP is standing up for science-driven vaccine policies and joins nearly 100 medical societies in a letter to HHS urging the reinstatement of terminated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) experts and a return to ACIP’s transparent public process for nominating and selecting new members.
Eroding the public trust in the safety and efficacy of vaccines will have repercussions, including limiting insurance coverage, and increasing the risks of outbreaks of preventable diseases. The letter states:
“Removing a panel of independent experts appointed through a transparent, public nomination process and selected for their expertise on this issue will undoubtedly seek to sow further doubt and cause growing confusion among healthcare professionals and their patients, leading to additional increases in potentially serious illness among our patients.”
We will continue raising concerns about the risks of limiting access to vaccines and our commitment to evidence-based vaccine guidance and patient safety will not waver.
