Our hearts go out to those within and outside the EM family affected by the atrocity in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan.
ACEP is proud of the emergency medicine professionals involved with the rapid response. We are especially concerned for the two EM residents injured during the chaos, who courageously managed to help others while they were in danger. But to echo our colleagues in Michigan, we must not accept these tragic events as 'normal.'
We are devastated by the avoidable loss of lives and hopeful that the injured make a quick recovery. As we keep the community in our hearts, we must recognize that senseless violence, including that using guns, is a public health crisis and much more can be done to help prevent these horrific acts from occurring in the first place.
